Borders girl living life in the capital

Lately I've been... #2

Thinking: exactly what this Thought Catalogue writer wrote in this article:

"This isn’t how I pictured dating. I never saw myself meeting guys on my iPhone and meeting up with them at a bar. But I guess everyone says that before they sign up for match.com. But how justified is Tinder? Is it right to judge someone mainly on looks and find a partner that way? Is our generation too lazy to meet someone the “old fashion way?” When I go out to bars with my girlfriends it is hard to find a quality guy to talk to. Is that because he is at home sending messages on Tinder to many different girls at a time? Is messaging on a phone more important than face time these days? I say I rather meet someone face to face but if it is so hard, is Tinder really the new way to date?"

Enjoying: all the pictures from Kimye's wedding! I know I shouldn't but I, not so secretly, quite like the Kardashians and couldn't help looking at the pictures from the wedding when they were released!

Feeling: determined to eat a little bit healthier and exercise a bit before my holiday. I've now been swimming for two weeks in a row and I am trying to cut down on sugary snacks, although the extent of that so far has been not putting sugar in my coffee at work!! I don't think I could cut out chocolate and biscuits all together since I definitely don't have that willpower, but swapping these for less calorific snacks is the plan!

Wearing: my sunglasses as a hair band! I'm so glad that we're at the time of year where it's acceptable to do this pretty much everyday. Even if it's raining then there's always the chance that it was remotely sunny earlier and you just stuck them up there and forgot about them! Well, I think I get away with this however a few people did comment on a night-out recently about the lack of sun in the bar at 11pm!?! Surely I'm not the only person who does this? They just hold my hair quite nicely!

Needing: to get the huge cracks in my phone screen replaced! My phone screen has been cracked since November and I've just kind of got used to it. I'm actually pretty lucky that the touch screen does still work but since I'll be using my phone as my camera when we go to Italy I really need to get it fixed soon. It's just a shame that the prices to replace the screen are so ridiculously high!

Wanting: a few more hours in the day. Wouldn't we all like this? Right now I'd probably like them in my working day in order to have the time to get myself little bit more organised, the days just seem to pass by so quickly at the moment!

Listening: to this! This is the second one of his songs that I'm shamelessly addicted to!

Buying: a bikini! I said last week that it was the next thing on my holiday shopping list, and I got a lovely one in Primark for £7! I'd still maybe like to get a better, more expensive one but I couldn't resist the floral set in Primark as soon as I spotted it.

Making: my lunches for work. Apart from buying a sandwich once last week (because I'd stayed at my dad's the night before) I can't really remember the last time that I bought my lunch whilst at work. I'm in a good routine of always making my lunch for work which works out well for both healthy eating reasons (a lot less trips to Gregg's!) and for money saving reasons, it's so much cheaper to make something at home.

Eating: popcorn! Sweet coconut and vanilla flavour from Propercorn and sweet cinnamon spice flavour from Metcalfe's skinny topcorn! These had popped up (no pun intended!) on my Instagram feed quite a lot however I had never actually seen them in the shops at all...until the other day! I was so excited when I spotted them in Boots and they definitely lived up to my, quite high, expectations of how they would taste, both so very yummy! I went back yesterday and bought another four packets, you know, just in case I never see them again!!

Drinking: fresh orange juice mixed with Robinsons apple and blackcurrant diluting juice! It's my new favourite, completely made up drink! Add some crushed ice and a slice of orange for the perfect summer mocktail.

Life Lately #5

I went swimming for the first time in ages as an effort to exercise pre-holiday. I swam my usual one mile, which is 72 lengths of my local pool. I like having a personal target when I exercise, if I plan to swim a mile then I would feel like I've failed if I leave before I've completed it! // My gorgeous new handbag from Zara. I had been on the look out for a navy handbag, and something a bit smaller than my usual Mary Poppins style handbags! This one was only £29.99, it is quite small though but it'll be perfect for my holiday and such a steal at that price. // A lovely Sunday morning spent with my little sister watching Frozen. I'd never seen it before but had heard very good things so I was probably more desperate than her to watch it, although that's understandable since she's been watching it at least once a day for a few weeks now! It definitely didn't disappoint, I loved it!

I had been craving macaroni cheese for ages so I made myself some after work one day last week, and enjoyed it whilst watching some Gossip Girl! A perfect night after a busy day at work; homemade comfort food and Netflix marathons. // After getting the idea from Pinterest, I made a pizza with a naan bread! It's never something I've thought of making before but it was a great, fairly cheap, and very quick dinner. // A typical coffee and cake Instagram shot! I enjoyed this alfresco cappuccino and shared these lovely cakes with my mum on one of the rare lovely sunny days in Edinburgh. It was a nice little French style cafe on Dundas Street that we stumbled upon whilst shopping and I'm sure I'll visit it again soon.

I dug out these old Clarks wedges, that I had actually kind of forgotten that I even owned, for a night out. They were one of the first pair of shoes I bought when I started working in Clarks, which means that I have had them for about three years! // I have a very, very large soft spot for pretty stationary! I could easily spend my entire income in Paperchase and my colleagues at work joke about me owning shares! I decided to revamp my folder at work and picked up some great floral stationary in Sainsburys whilst food shopping. I may have ended up with more stationary in my basket than food, my priorities were possibly slightly wrong that day. // Since working for Clarks I have bought more shoes than I have probably bought in my whole life! However, how can you pass up such lovely shoes, especially with staff discount? My most recent Clarks purchase was these trainers from the kids department, I couldn't resist them! I like the new trainer trend coming from the rise of the New Balance ones and I would love a pair of New Balance but these are my cheaper alternative!

Lately I've been... #1

I'm back! I'm back, I'm back, I'm back, I'm back! Maybe if I say it enough, it might actually happen! I'm forever apologising for the lack of time in between my blog entries but this time I really really want this to become a more regular thing! On a day to day basis I always think of things that I could blog about but actually getting those ideas into a structured post just never seems to happen. I really do admire all the lovely bloggers that I know and follow who can keep their blogs up to date so often. I also have so many ideas in my head about redesigning the look of my blog, and hopefully that will happen soon, so keep your eyes peeled. I also need to get more involved in Bloglovin' and start following my favourite blogs on there since nobody really uses Google Friend Connect anymore! However, this post is just step one in me becoming the blogger that I used to be!

I'm going to start back with a post that's going to become a weekly feature on here from now on! It'll hopefully encourage me to blog a bit more often, and allows me to share what I've been up to that week. So here's week #1:

This week I've been:

Thinking: about whether these fairytale moments (found on Tumblr) actually ever happen?!? I'm clearly going to the wrong coffee shops if they do!!

I SAW THIS ON TUMBLR BY THE WAY, THIS DID NOT HAPPEN TO ME!!!

Enjoying: watching Gossip Girl. Having never watched it before I've been working my way through it on Netflix for a few months now. I'm nearing the end and unfortunately I managed to read online who Gossip Girl really is when I was still on about series two, but it's not made it any less enjoyable to watch.

Feeling: excited for our family holiday to Italy in 7 weeks! I've started shopping for holiday clothes which has definitely fuelled my excitement, it's a good feeling being able to buy clothes for a hot climate and knowing that you'll definitely get to wear them. Next on my shopping list: a bikini!

Wearing: my Topshop Joni skinny jeans...constantly! I love them so much that I've actually contemplated buying another pair so that I can rotate whilst they are in the wash.

Needing: a massage. One of the girls at work had just been for one before she started her shift the other day and it got me thinking! Luckily I do have a spa voucher that I got for my birthday so I can see myself redeeming that pretty soon.

Wanting: desperately to organise a catch-up with my two best friends! Two of us live in Edinburgh and the other is down in Manchester so we're trying to organise to meet half way very soon.

Listening: to The Lake Poets. I saw these guys as a support act at a gig about four years ago, but I just recently heard this song, titled with my favourite city!

Buying: new home stuff for our flat. My flatmate and I considered moving flats this year but decided that we should just stay put. Instead of moving we've decided that we'll put some money into making our flat a bit nicer, so we're just slowly replacing things that are nearing the end of their days. Today I bought new oven gloves and chopping boards...it's boring stuff really!

Making: cakes, cakes and more cakes! I've been baking quite a lot recently. I made my mum's 50th birthday red velvet cake as well as carrot cupcakes and apple and cinnamon cupcakes all in the last few weeks. My next plan is to make something from the Nutella recipe book that I got for my birthday!

Eating: toasted bagels with mushroom pate. I went to the health food shop at the weekend and came out with a tube of mushroom pate. We served this as a sandwich filler at the cafe I used to work in and I don't think I've had it for a few years, I'd forgotten how amazing it is on a toasted bagel!

Drinking: a caramel macchiato. I thought I'd try something different at Starbucks the other day instead of my usual chai tea latte so I went for a caramel macchiato, and it was such a good choice! I think it might be my new 'usual'!
